Victoria Lawson - Freelance Dancer

Victoria started dance lessons at age 3 in ballet, tap and modern. She started to become interested in contemporary dance after attending a summer school at Dance City age 16. She then spent two years studying on Dance City’s CAT programme and successfully auditioned for the foundation course at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.

Victoria stayed at NSCD to complete a Bachelor degree in Contemporary Dance Performance in 2011. In her third year she completed a teaching placement at a nearby school and this experience inspired her to teach. After completing her degree, Victoria began her teaching career in the North-East. Prior to joining Gateway, she taught GCSE and A Level Dance at Whitley Bay High School and Durham Sixth Form Centre. She has choreographed for U.Dance North-East and taught at private dance schools such as Decote Dance and Charlene Melling School of Dance. She has also worked as a Teaching Assistant in various SEND departments, supporting students with significant Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

In 2018 Victoria achieved a distinction in her Dance Diploma in Teaching and Learning at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, under the direction of course leader and OFQUAL advisor Dr Lorna Sanders. She currently teaches for Gateway Studio at Newcastle School for Girls.
